Finder v1.0 File Finder
Copyright (c) 1991 by Bill Aycock
Finder is a simple utility that can help you locate a file that contains
a particular combination of words or phrases. You can specify up to three
phrases to look for, and Finder will search all the files in a folder
looking for one which contains any or all of the phrases.
Finder is pretty straightforward to operate. It runs as an ACC or PRG on
any ST or TT in any resolution. When the dialog appears, enter up to three
strings to search for. You can search for strings containing any character
except a null; to enter a non-ASCII character in a string, hold down the
Alt key and type in three decimal digits on the numeric keypad. Click the
buttons to choose if you want to find all the strings or any one of them,
and whether you want the search to be case sensitive or not. You can use
the file selector to locate the folder to search, or type in a path in the
space provided. (Note: all the buttons on the main screen can be selected
by pressing Alt and typing the first character; e.g., Alt-C selects the
Case Sensitive button, Alt-S selects Search, etc.) When you click the
Search button, Finder will try to find a file containing your phrases. If
the search is successful, Finder will tell you where in the file each
phrase was found, and will display part of the file surrounding the phrase.
You may cancel the search at any time by pressing the Undo key.
Finder is really a preliminary version of a more robust utility, sort of
a feasibility study. It doesn't look like I'll get around to the enhanced
version soon, so I thought I'd distribute this limited version for the time
being. I hope it proves useful to you!
